What are sunspots?

Every 11 years, groups of black blotches appear on the surface of the Sun. These are called sunspots. Sunspots are areas which has a temperature of 1,000 C cooler than the rest of the Sun's surface. They are caused by the changes in the magnetic field of the Sun. Sunspots cause radiation that often interferes with radio and television signals on the Earth. Sizes of sunspots can be 10 times bigger that of the Earth.
